Think Positive thoughts with Julie

In this installment I get to sit down with Julie Boucher, who is currently holding down the fort known as Bird Bakery while the owners are away.  They couldn’t have asked for a better spokesperson to step in for them.  I stopped by Bird Bakery the other day for lunch and Nicole Fratto, another Bird Bakery employee told me that I needed to get Julie on Project Positivity since she embodies everything positive.  I’m not sure how long we’ll have Julie here from Los Angeles, but hopefully it’s for a while.  I’ve always been told that San Antonio is one of the friendliest cities that people visit so adding another positive and friendly person is always a good thing.  Julie also lends a hand with the Hammered Heart Foundation, a non-profit that helps people left destitute from divorce and abandonment.  Please take look and support their honorable mission.  When I sat down with Julie, we had a nice chat about the challenges she’s gone through and I asked her frankly “why are you here?”  Without a second thought she said “to help people, and to leave people feeling better after I meet them.”  I thought that was a beautiful and sincere answer.  Watch the video and please tell me what you think.

Sincerely,

Jonathan

Think Positive thoughts with Sarah Brooke Lyons

Sarah Brooke

In this installment I get to sit down with Sarah Brooke Lyons, a local photographer with a great idea called 1005 faces, where she highlights the diversity of San Antonio residents in a simple yet creative way.  Take a look at her Facebook page (1005 Faces) and give it a “Like.”  Sarah Brooke was recommended to me from a few people on the day that I met her at an art even in downtown San Antonio.  I could tell the minute that I met her that I liked her energy.   There she was, swamped with people wanting to get their picture taken for her project, being bombarded with questions and requests, and still having a huge smile on her face.  I could tell that she likes what she is doing, and I am sure she has a bright future ahead of her.  Sarah Brooke is a professional photographer and you can see her talents (and hire her) at her website Sarah Brooke Photography.  I was very impressed that she’s also a humanitarian and will be packing up and leaving the country to go to Brazil to lend a hand there.  The one thing that stood out to me in her interview was that she acknowledges that she has tough days, and negativity can be present, but she doesn’t focus on what’s her challenges.  She saw that if she focused on the negative, it’s harder to get out of it later.  She also knows that immersing ourselves in work (like meeting the 1005 people for her project) exposes her to new interesting things, people, and stories that she would otherwise not know or hear.  I could have listened to her stories for several hours.  Maybe she’ll write a book about the people in her project and tell us what they meant by the signs they are holding up.  It’s funny how we see ourselves and how other see us.  The day that I met her, she claims that she was frazzled and that a ton of things were going on, but from my perspective she seemed calm, in control, and having a great time doing what she loved.  Thanks Sarah Brooke, I sincerely appreciate your interview and what you’ve given me to think about.

Sincerely,

Jonathan

** the ambient fan noise is a little distracting in this video, you can enable the “CC” (closed captioning) to read the dialog or you can read the transcript below this post.

In this installment I get to speak with Chuck Cureau and find out how he keeps his fantastic outlook on life.  Chuck is a staple at the San Antonio Spurs games as an announcer between quarters and at half time, coordinating the fun audience participation events the keep the crowd entertained.  Chuck is also a trainer at Sea World and does quite a bit of local commercials.  I met Chuck back in the early 90′s and I am so happy to see his career flourish.  Every time that I see Chuck out and about town he always has a smile on his face and has a contagiously positive attitude.  Chuck and I share a lot of the same philosophies about positive quotes and I am sure that his live will be a happy and successful one.  Thanks Chuck, I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to speak to us and sharing your mission statement.

Jonathan
Hey guys its Jonathan with Project Positivity
and I am excited, I am here with Chuck Cureau,
Cureau, I am pronouncing correct? ok good.
Chuck is a San Antonio icon, he’s going to laugh
about that. I’ve known Chuck for, since the early
90′s. He is inspirational to me if you ever go to a
Spurs game you’re going to see Chuck, if you’re
ever in the local San Antonio market you’re going
to see him on tv, he’s just a really inspiring and
positive person and I am very very thankful to get
Chuck on camera to talk to you guys a little bit
about positivity and how he stays positive because
if you ever see him or hear him you know he’s a
really positive guy. So Chuck, please accept
this this Positive Pin, it’s just an acknowledgement
to you.
Chuck
Thank you, it’s an honor, you know
Jonathan
What do you do to stay positive?
Chuck
What do I do to stay positive, you know
Well first off I’m only human and there are
Positive days and there are days that aren’t
so positive but just try to throw those days
throw those instances out and you’ve got
to look at it as the glass being half full as opposed to
half empty because there’s always people out
there who are worse off than you are and I know
that’s not the most positive thing to say but there
really is and sometimes seeing that and realizing
that puts it all into perspective how blessed that we
really are. And for me, as a spiritual person, it’s a
God thing. I’m so pleased that Gods in my life and
he helps to keep me positive and to do what’s best
for me and I think when you have a positive attitude
you see things as half full as opposed to half
empty and you think about the good things and
think that you can achieve it. I’ve got a quick story
for you if I might. um I’ve been, about 25 years ago,
well 26 years ago I wanted to be an animal trainer
at Sea World um I wanted to swim with the whales
and dolphins and sea lions and interact with them
and train them and help maintain and educate people
but there was one thing standing in my way, I didn’t
know how to swim, so you can’t work at Sea World
in the animal training department if you can’t swim
so I joined a gym and I went there every day, I
went there every day for 9 months and there
were times when it was so difficult because
you know when you live 21 years and you’re afraid
to put your face under water, um, it’s a tough thing
I was very frightened of that and there were times
when I’d be in the water and try to put my face under
water and felt I was choking or the world was closing
in on me I said I can’t do this I can’t do this so I get
out, go in the shower and sit there and go you can
do this, you you CAN Do this, so I’d put my shorts back
on go back in the pool it took me 9 months from not being
able to swim to being able to swim and pass the swim
test at Sea World and that was 25 years ago I hit my
25 year anniversary at Sea World just last week uh
and I’m so happy that uh back in the late 80′s I said
I CAN Swim even though I couldn’t at the time. I said
I can swim and you think enough about it it comes
to fruition.
Jonathan
You’re absolutely right and going back to thinking about
other people that’s who, who may be worse off than
us, Iv’e said in previous videos, It’s one of my practices
and I don’t dwell on other people that are less fortunate
that I am but when we realize how how lucky we are how
blessed we are how you guys watching this video you
have the internet and the vast majority of the population
of the world does not have the internet, so we’re really
blessed and and love about your story Chuck is that
positive reaffirmation that you can do something you
can do something so we all have challenges but if you
give up, it’s just such a defeating thing, you just have
to have faith in yourself faith in God. A common, a common thread in my videos if you guys have seen the other
videos that I’ve done is faith in God.
Chuck
you know several years ago I decided to create a
mission statement I’ve heard about mission statements
for businesses and I decided why can’t I have a
mission statement for myself um and I’d love to share
that with you. Um, with God as my inspiration using my
skills talents and abilities to create happiness for myself
and others. So I try, I am by no means perfect by no
means successful all the time but I really try whenever
I can just to try to create happiness for other people and
myself and I think um, and I think if you try to create
happiness for other people you will find happiness for
yourself and it starts with being positive
Jonathan
You’re right, that’s uh that’s actually one of my favorite
speakers we unfortunately lost him earlier this year
Zig Ziglar and one of his famous quotes if not his
most famous was if you help enough people
get what they want you get everything that you want
yeah so it’s just well Chuck thank you for doing this
Chuck
Thank you, this means a lot I’m going to wear this
around town
Jonathan
I wear mine every day
Chuck
I’m gonna put it on right now brother
Jonathan

Think Positive™ thoughts featuring Khina Sudebi

25 May
May 25, 2013

“Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them.”
~ Dalai Lama XIV

In this installment I get to chat with Khina Sudebi, a Nepalese young woman whom I met just a few days ago.  One of my side projects is I teach people how to invest in real estate (as a character called The HUD King) and a very nice couple came to two of my classes.  They called me shortly after and asked me if I could help them find some good investment properties.  They also spoke about a young outstanding woman, from Nepal that was a translator for Nepalese immigrants.  She came from an area of extreme poverty and is now on her way to becoming a doctor.  Her immediate goal is to help find her family a home and get out of a cramped apartment.  We all went to lunch after a HUD home training I did and I got to know her a little better.  Throughout the whole lunch she was all smiles.  She told us about the harsh conditions of growing up in Nepal and how the 20+ hour flight over to the United States was a big change.  I have no doubt that Khina will go far in life, look how far she’s come in her brief 20 years on this planet.  I’m also sure that she’s going to help a lot of people too, as a doctor or whatever field she decides to go into.  She has a natural and real positive aura about her and I hope that you all get to meet her some day.

Sincerely,

Jonathan

Think Positive™ Blog issues….positive quotes

25 May
May 25, 2013

I’d like to apologize to anyone that tried to access this blog in the past week.  For reasons beyond my control the site has some technical issues which obviously have now been resolved.   One important lesson through this whole ordeal was that getting angry, upset, mad, accusatory, and all the other negative feelings I coud have experienced was never an option.  I chose to stay positive and diligent on getting the site back online and working towards ensuring this doesn’t happen again.  I do feel bad for anyone that has a positive quote testimonial that was not accessible during the past week.  I am really looking forward to interviewing more positive people and if anyone has suggestions on how to make the interviews even better, please share them with me.  Sharing is caring and when we pool our thoughts, we make the world a better place.  Please feel free to browse our products and share a Positive Pin™ with someone special.

Sincerely,

Jonathan

Think Positive Thoughts – Featuring Jacueline Mittelstadt

17 Apr
April 17, 2013

In this interview I sit down with Jacqueline Mittelstadt, a young superstar that I met a few weeks ago and award a Positive Pin™.  Jacqueline knows how important it is to think positive thoughts on a regular basis.  Her mom impressed upon her at an early age that ones attitude is their own personal responsibility.  When I met Jacqueline, she was interviewing people for a very creative endeavor called SA Teen Scene.  It’s a video show that focuses on stories aimed at teens.  She also has aspirations of being a speaker talk about ways to stop bullying.  She currently helps Kim Mittlestadt, her mom; at their upscale salon (KM Impressions) and started a campaign around a product she created called Prismatic Lip Sparkles, which is a high quality flavorful lip gloss that can help anyone feel happy and sassy.   As you’ll see from the video, she exudes positivity and a happy light attitude.  She’s a delight to chat with and I’m sure she’ll go very far in life.  To see what SA Teen Scene is about and to connect with them take a look at these links:

the first Think Positive™ photo posting contest

04 Apr
April 4, 2013

This is something that I’ve considered doing for a long time but never made the time to officially put it together.  Well the time has come to hold myself accountable and continue my monthly Think Positive™ giveaways!  The goal is to get people to spend more time thinking positive thoughts by wearing or using any of my products.  All they need do is snap a photo of themselves wearing a Positive Pin™, a Think Positive™ cap or t-shirt, or drinking out of a Think Positive™ mug and post it to my Facebook page.  Every month I will draw one person at random to receive a special gift to help them remember to think positive thoughts.  I hope that this turns out to be something big and I hope that I can help people smile and live happier lives.

The winner of the first drawing is Mikayla, a student at a middle school where I gave a speech.  She was the first (and only from the school) to post a picture of herself and a Positive Pin™.  Thanks Mikayla, you’re a real trooper and I am sure that you’ll be living a happier life!

If you’re interested in participating, please post a photo of yourself wearing or using one of my products on my Facebook page.  You can enter every month as long as the picture is new!  I am looking forward to seeing you all on my Facebook page!

The Think Positive™ highlight of March

26 Mar
March 26, 2013

The Positive Pin™

Few things can excite a person and kindle the flame of self confidence and self satisfaction as checking off a goal from your goals list.  This month I finally got to speak to two 8th grade classes at my former middle school, Coke R. Stevenson.  At first I didn’t know what to expect, or exactly what I’d say to these students, I just know that I wanted to do it.  I have to give a big shout out to Toastmasters International for helping me grow as a speaker.  I also want to thank “coach” Adriana Blow-Price for letting me speak to her classroom of exceptional students.  They were all inquisitive and it was so neet to see all of those kids with their unique individual personalities.  I am really looking forward to speaking again to another group young kids, it’s easily one of the most rewarding things I have done in a long time.  Oh, and their reaction when I told them that I would be giving them their own Positive Pin™ to wear was priceless.  I even had them make a vow attaching something in their life that makes them happy to the pin.  I shared some of my favorite positive thinking quotes with them too.  Life is good when you think positive thoughts.

Project Positivity – Think Positive™ thoughts with Leticia Arauz

18 Mar
March 18, 2013

In this interview I sit down with Leticia Arauz, a local realtor with one of the most successful real estate brokerage firms in San Antonio, Kuper Realty.  I met Leticia at dinner a few weeks ago and she loved what I do.  She too is a positive thinker and after a few minutes of chatting with her I knew I had to feature her on Project Positivity and give her a Positive Pin.  Like a true positive thinker, she recommended that I interview Mike Hoover (See two videos before this one) for his positive attitude and mission even before I took the time to interview her.  It was nice to sit down over a nice long dinner and share positive thoughts and philosophies.  As you’ll see from the video Leticia is a true positive practitioner.  She was such a delight to interview and I hope that you can take away s few tips that she talks about.

Project Positivity – Think Positive™ thoughts with Mandy Pilgrim

06 Mar
March 6, 2013

In this installment I get to honor Mandy Pilgrim with The Positive Pin™ for her fantastic attitude.  Mandy is a longtime friend of my girlfriend Pilar and was recommended for Project Positivity because as long as Pilar has known her she has always maintained a positive outlook on life.  Thanks to the invention of Facebook we are exposed to more of her philosophies and quotes.  I try to research the people that I recognize and Mandy certainly does exude most of the same positive principals that I do!  She loves affirmations, motivation and manifestations. I know it may sound a little kooky to some of you but if you ask anyone that has really achieved anything major in life, manifesting what they expect to happen is key.  Ever since the introduction of books like The Secret, The Power of Positive Thinking and Think and Grow Rich we are realizing the power of our minds.  I am a firm believer that what we focus on becomes our reality, so be careful what you think about!

Mandy is the Vice President of Preferred Client Development for First American Title Company at 10999 I-H 10 West, San Antonio TX and being in that position knows how important it is to stay positive.  When you are responsible to acquiring and maintaining happy clients and friends, there is no time to think negative thoughts.  Thank for doing the interview Mandy, I look forward to playing poker with you.  I hear that you’re a pretty good player.
